Joey Lopes Memorial Main Event 
The annual "Joey Lopes Memorial Main Event" will be held November 4, 2017.  Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Alzheimer’s Aid Society of Northern California and the American River College Gerontology Scholarship Fund.  As a boxing championship contender in the 1950's and 1960's, Joey Lopes put West Sacramento on the sports map.  Later in life, Joey suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and died in 1997.  His family has hosted this event annually for decades to support organizations that fight Alzheimer's Disease and support families affected by it.  

The menu will be Shrimp, Tri-Tip, Chicken, Pasta, Salad, Bread and Wine.  A $45 donation per person is requested.

            6:00 p.m. - No Host Bar
            7:00 p.m. - Dinner
            8:30 -11:30 p.m. - Raffle & Dancing

Info for Caregivers:  UC Davis Alzheimer's Caregiver Workshop
The 2017 UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiver Workshop will be held on Saturday, November 4 beginning at 8:00 a.m.  The workshop, moderated by Ladson Hinton, professor and director of Geriatric Psychiatry at UC Davis, will cover a number of topics related to caregiving and feature a presentation by Linda Teri, PhD, titled "When caring is not enough: Combining science with compassion." Dr. Teri is a professor in the Department of Psychosocial and Community Health at the School of Nursing University of Washington.  

Additional talks include "Connected Horse: The Power of Healing" by Nancy Schier Anzelmo, professor of Gerontology at California State University, Sacramento, and "Recognizing and Reducing Family Caregiver Stress" by Terri Harvath, executive associate dean at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. The program will end with a panel of national and local professionals who will answer audience questions and provide information about helpful resources.

The Workshop is free-of-charge but seating is limited.  You can find more information and make reservations at Eventbrite.com.    


A BIG THANK YOU for a Successful, Fun Golf Tournament!!
Our 14th Annual Golf Tournament on September 15th was a great success!!  Through the generosity of those who came and our sponsors, $15,000 was given in support of the Alzheimer's Aid Society.  And a super thanks to the beautiful Teal Bend Golf Course for their hospitality.

New "Forget Me Not Newsletter Now Online
The 2017 - Second/Third Quarter issue of the Alzheimer's Aid Society's "Forget-Me-Not" newsletter is now online. We apologize that this issue is so tardy. Our staff at the Alzheimer's Aid Society have themselves become family caregivers so their time has been limited.

Beginning in 2017, the "Forget Me Not" newsletter will be produced quarterly. In addition, to save money on the cost of printing and postage, the Newsletter will be available online only. It will continue to cover events, research updates, and advice for caregivers.
