Sheryl Ashby-Perry Resigns

In December, Sheryl Ashby-Perry the Chief Executive Officer of the Alzheimer's Aid Society announced her decision to retire.  Sheryl started working as a volunteer with the Society in 2000.  In 2009, John and Bea Gorman, the founders of the Society, handed the reins to Sheryl to continue the mission of the Society in preparation for their retirement.  Sheryl will continue to volunteer for the Alzheimer's Aid Society as the Board's President.  She has just returned from celebrating her wedding anniversary and the start of her retirement in Oahu.  Her daily presence in the office will be missed and we wish her great joy in her retirement.

Recognizing a Generous Bequest
The Alzheimer's Aid Society has recently received a very generous gift of $100,000 from the estate of Mrs. Helen Zysling of Visalia, California.  Mrs. Zysling, born September 1, 1932, in Long Beach, was the youngest child of Dutch immigrants.  In 1952, she married Gary Zysling, a Dutch immigrant she met at the ice skating rink.  They began their first dairy in Bellflower, CA with 60 cows and finally relocated the business to Dinuba, CA in 1974.  After her husband's death in 1992, Mrs. Zysling remained in the business until 2007.

Our condolences to her family including her four daughters, Yvonne Zysling, Caren Anderson, Laura (Rock) Ferreira, and Charlene (Ward) Stringham, and her son, Gary (Christine) Zysling., as well as thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thank you so much for this generous gift which will be used to continue the mission of the Alzheimer's Aid Society – "Supporting the caregiver.  Remembering the cared for."  Our website has information on how you too can support the Society through a bequest.

2018 Golf Tournament Date Set
Save The Date!!  Our 15th Annual Golf Tournament in support of the Alzheimer's Aid Society will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018.  Once again we will be at the beautiful Teal Bend Golf Course.  Plus Atria will again be our title sponsor - Thank You!!  Get together with your friends and plan to have a great day.

Can You Help?  We Need Volunteers
We have an urgent need for volunteers to help in our office to answer phones and assist visitors.   In addition, office volunteers will make copies and may respond to office e-mail.  We also need a volunteer to facilitate the patient support group for the Tuesday morning caregiver support group.  If you are interested in finding out more, please call our office at (916) 483-2002.

Info for Caregivers:  Legal Matters
As Alzheimer's Disease progresses, there will come a point when your loved one should no longer be involved in financial and legal decisions.  These decisions must be completed before Alzheimer's steals your loved one's sound judgement.   Before that happens, your family has hard decisions to make and legal documents to prepare.  But what does it all mean?  The staff and legal volunteers at the Alzheimer's Aid Society are here to help.

First, review the chapter in "A Practical Guide for Alzheimer's Caregivers"  on legal information.   This chapter covers health care directives, wills and trusts, Veteran’s Affairs Aid and Attendance Benefits, and Medi-Cal benefits.

Second, call our office at (916) 483-2002 and request free legal guidance.  You will receive an appointment with Max Perry, JD, and Attorney Ric Duverney for a consultation.  Appointments are scheduled for the third Friday of each month.

Finally, follow through!  Don't wait until it is too late!
